THE DSG JOURNEY

The story of Dream Sporting Gear (DSG) traces its roots back to a lifelong passion for automobiles and motorcycling — a legacy that began in 1965. It was then that Harjeet Singh Makkar’s father established Union Automobiles in Pune, right in the heart of India’s two-wheeler hub. This marked the beginning of a family deeply connected to the country’s growing automotive movement.

DREAMBIKES AND DHOOM
Fast forward to 2002, when Harjeet Singh founded DreamBikes — a superbike sales and service outlet that quickly became a pioneer in bringing high-performance motorcycles to India. DreamBikes made history by providing superbikes, technical expertise, and logistical support for the iconic Bollywood movie DHOOM, a film that ignited India’s passion for superbikes. Harjeet and his team not only supplied the bikes but also participated in several action sequences, with Harjeet himself going behind the camera to perfect the biker shots. During the filming, Harjeet realised a crucial gap — India had no locally available motorcycle riding gear. Every piece of equipment had to be imported. This challenge sparked an idea that would later revolutionise the Indian motorcycling landscape. That’s when with the help of his friend and partner Suresh Babu, Harjeet worked with the government and helped change the import law for high cubic capacity motorcycles. He applied to the GFT (director general of foreign trade) to change the type of approval requirements to import high end motorcycles. His efforts were fruitful and the law changed so that all motorcycles above 800CC were allowed to be imported under the open general license, thereby opening doors for all manufacturers to launch their high cubic capacity motorcycles in India in 2008. After the completion of DHOOM 2, the vision for an Indian brand dedicated to riding safety gear began to take shape.

THE BIRTH OF DREAM SPORTING GEAR

In 2005, that vision came to life with the birth of Dream Sporting Gear (DSG) in Pune. What began as an extension of DreamBikes soon evolved into one of India’s first dedicated riding gear brands, created to make biking safer and more accessible for every Indian rider.

In 2006, DSG entered into an exclusive partnership with Alpinestars, becoming the official distributor of Alpinestars riding gear in India. This partnership marked the start of a long and successful journey, introducing Indian motorcyclists to world-class protection, design, and performance.

Today, Dream Sporting Gear stands as a symbol of innovation, protection, and passion for motorcycling. With two decades of experience, DSG continues to design and manufacture premium, Made-in-India riding gear — crafted to meet Indian conditions while upholding global safety standards.

At DSG the mission is to provide riders in the Indian market with access to top-quality Riding Gear that meet the highest global standards. We believe that every rider should have access to reliable, durable, and stylish riding gear without compromising on safety, hence our mantra is "For Rider safety"

The vision is to establish Dream Sporting Gear as the leading riding gear brand in India. Through our commitment to excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction, we aspire to be the preferred choice for riders who seek unparalleled quality and value in their sporting gear.

From the streets of Pune to the racetracks of the world, DSG strives to make every ride safer, smarter, and more spirited.

DSG has now evolved into a complete in-house ecosystem — from design and R&D to manufacturing and quality control. Every product is conceptualised, tested, and crafted within our own facilities in Pune, ensuring that each jacket, glove, and protector meets the highest safety and performance benchmarks. Over the years, DSG has expanded its footprint across India through a strong dealer network and a growing community of riders who trust our gear on every journey. Today, we’re proud to stand as a homegrown brand with global standards, constantly innovating to elevate the motorcycling experience — both on the road and on the track.

leadership

At the heart of Dream Sporting Gear stands a leadership team built on experience, passion, and an uncompromising commitment to motorcycling. Harjeet Singh Makkar, Founder of DSG, brings decades of riding and industry insight, having witnessed firsthand the lack of high-quality riding gear in India. His vision to create world-class protective equipment that is accessible, functional, and proudly Made in India laid the foundation for DSG’s journey as a pioneer in the Indian riding gear ecosystem.

Alongside him is Amol Talpade, CEO of DSG, a former national-level racer and motorsports professional with over three decades of experience on and off the track. From winning national championships with TVS Factory Racing to shaping India’s biking culture through landmark events, Amol brings a racer’s mindset and a technologist’s precision to the brand. Since joining DSG in 2017, he has played a defining role in transforming the company into a fully in-house, design-to-manufacture organization, driving innovation, operational excellence, and long-term growth.

Together, Harjeet and Amol represent a rare blend of entrepreneurial vision and racing-bred expertise. As riders themselves, they don’t just lead DSG from boardrooms—they lead it from the saddle, ensuring every product reflects real-world riding needs. Their shared belief in protection over gimmicks, function over fashion, and Indian engineering with global standards continues to steer DSG toward its mission of equipping riders with gear they can truly trust

Motorcycling Legends

Dream Sporting Gear’s journey has been guided and inspired by some of India’s most legendary riders and mentors. Shyam Kothari, a seven-time national motocross champion and close friend of Harjeet Singh Makkar, has shared his racing expertise and insights, helping shape the sport in India. Legendary rally rider C.S. Santosh, the first and only Indian to conquer the gruelling Dakar Rally, has relied on DSG gear in his remarkable journeys, bringing international attention to India’s motorsport talent. Leading the brand today, Amol Talpade, multiple-time national champion and CEO of DSG, continues this legacy by mentoring the next generation of riders. His guidance has been instrumental in the development of Sarthak Chavan, who clinched the Asia One Make Championship title in 2025, helping him refine his skills and achieve excellence on the track. Together, these champions and mentors embody DSG’s spirit - a blend of performance, passion, and community - and reinforce the brand’s commitment to every rider on India’s roads and racetracks.

Events

Dream Sporting Gear has always thrived at the intersection of passion and performance. From the adrenaline-charged racetracks to the open roads of India, DSG has left its mark on the country’s motorcycling culture. The brand’s commitment to riders has taken it to the forefront of competitive racing, sponsoring riding gear for Suzuki’s one-make championship and The Gixxer Cup. Its presence at the India Superbike Festival (ISF) further strengthened DSG’s role in shaping India’s two-wheeler sports scene.

But DSG’s story isn’t confined to the track. At festivals like Motoverse and India Bike Week, the brand transforms into an immersive experience for riders, with zones that showcase innovation, let enthusiasts feel the precision of DSG Flexion protectors, and bring the thrill of motorcycling alive. Each interaction, each demonstration, and every handshake reflects DSG’s belief that riding is more than a sport — it’s a community. Through these experiences, the brand celebrates the spirit of every rider, uniting performance, protection, and passion under one banner: Made in India, Made for Rider Safety.
